Young people can be supported to continue ‘Staying On’ with a carer to ensure they have a stable living arrangement until the age of 21. This includes a continuation of payments and support to foster and family carers. It is expected that a young person will also contribute to their living expenses from their independent income. The focus of Staying On Agreements is to support the young person’s emerging independence. These payments will be administered by the Department of Communities. All the tools and resources a Staying On Facilitator and a Transition Coach need to support a young person in making a decision about Staying On are below.
The Home Stretch WA CoP has a Staying On and Housing Allowance Policy & Practice working group that manages updates to documents and resources and the latest Policy and Practice Guidleines.
The following documents are up to date as of April 2025. Please contact homestretchwa@communities.wa.gov.au to join the working group and access up to date practice resources.
